Apple announced the next version of its software in June as a part of its annual WWDC conference. iOS 11 beta is beautiful and full of little surprises. You can try the public beta for free. iOS 11 in many ways is an iterative update, which comes loaded with small yet exciting tweaks and improvements, that would improve your overall iOS experience both on iPhone and iPad. The biggest changes came to Siri, Lock Screen, App Store, Control Center and AR software that is going to change the virtual world with the help of your Apple devices.

Top 10 iOS 11 Features

I’ve been testing iOS 11 on my iPhone 7 since Apple released it, and here are my iOS 11 Top 10 features so far.

Control Center

Control Center is one the most important iOS 11 features this year. It received a massive change in its design and now it is user customizable. The new control center allows you to add or remove toggles in the control center making it user friendly. However, it doesn’t allow you to remove all the toggles in the control center, keeping the default ones including music player and Wi-Fi and network toggles intact.

Control Center comes with 3D Touch support and contains more options than the previous software versions. A surprise like screen recording was also found in Control Center.

Apple tend to improve Notes in each of its iOS and macOS updates, making it similar to the other word editors. In iOS 11, you will witness several tricks like drag and drop support, a built-in scanner, table support and mark up tools. And you are completely mistaken if you think all this just support iPad. These features are also available in the iPhone version of iOS 11. The iPad version if getting even more exciting features in Apple’s latest update.

Apple changed the way screenshots work in iOS 11, and that’s a welcome change. As soon as you take a screenshot, you’ll be able to immediately edit the image before sharing it with others. You could do that before by going into the Photos app, but now it’s all available as soon as you take the shot.

The all new App Store

Besides iOS, another thing that powers the iPhone and iPad is the App Store. With iOS 11, Apple has completely redesigned App Store to deliver a rich experience to its users. Games and Applications are now separated from each other into two tabs, something that should have happened years ago.

Camera and Photos

The camera app in iOS 11 now shows filters in a row with live thumbnails, which gives you a glimpse of how your camera will perform in each filter. It helps to save the post production time working on your shots.

Even live photos is getting better and smarter with iOS 11. Now Apple users will get to choose a bunch of neat effects for their Live Photos with the ability to edit them to select the still photo ties to your Live photo.

Apple is changing the way it shows storage on iPhone and iPad. Besides telling you what kind of data is eating away your memory, the storage menu on your Apple devices will let you free up space. It will get you with suggestions for deleting old messages and pictures, as well as apps that you use rarely. This feature can really be of great help if you are still using a 16GB iPhone.

Finally, Apple has felt the use of such an app called Files. Files is a new iOS app that deserves some recognition. It should help be of great help in managing the files and attachments that we want to store on our phones and tablets. It is not fully functional yet, which means it still needs to be able to interact with other iOS apps.

Do Not Disturb While Driving

It is definitely one of the iOS 11 Top 10 Features in iOS 11 that will enrich your overall smartphone experience. Do Not Disturb While Driving does what it says. It helps to prevent distractions while driving. If you set it to work automatically, it will prompt you to activate DND mode even when boarding a cab or using public transit. Your Apple device is smart enough to track that you are moving too fast to be walking. You can of course choose not to enable DND mode if you are the person relaxing on the back seat of your vehicle.

Text to Siri

Siri is going to even sound better in iOS 11. In the all new version of Apple’s software, Siri will have new capabilities, such as translating several languages and the ability to type to Siri. Text or Type to Siri is designed for users who are unable to speak to their queries and need to a keyboard to write their query.

Drag and drop

Though I was unable to test drag and drop on the iPad personally, but its preview on the WWDC event was supercalifragilisticexpialidocious (or stunning :P). It can help you to drag and drop inside apps like Notes, Photos, Files and Messages. One can simply hold the content written and drag and drop it to the destined place.

iOS 11 Public Beta is already available on Apple’s official website, and you can try it yourself right now. Even so, you should expect bugs, errors, crashes and some unexpected behaviour out of your phone, because this is still an unfinished piece of the massive software.
